94-Year-Old Escapes Trunk Of Kidnapper's Car After 7 Hours

A 94-year-old Arizona woman was able to escape an abduction attempt Tuesday by freeing herself from the trunk of the kidnapper’s car. The unidentified Phoenix woman was taken from her home when a man broke in, bound her and put her in his trunk. He then drove to a shopping mall where he parked the car, police said Wednesday.

The suspect in question was apparently a “clean cut” man in his 30s, police spokesman Sgt. Ben Hoster said, according to the Associated Press. He managed to force his way inside her condominium at about 6:00 a.m. and kidnapped her. It was unclear whether the suspect had stolen anything from the woman’s home. Police still had not apprehended the man responsible.

“The suspect that we’re dealing with is a very dangerous person,” Hoster said, according to AZ Family. “And we definitely want to get this person in custody as soon as possible.”

The woman was in the trunk for seven hours before she escaped, though it remained unclear how she got out. Witnesses in the parking lot of the Scottsdale Fashion Square mall called 911 at around 1:30 p.m. when they found the woman.

It remained unclear what injuries the woman suffered but she was taken to the hospital for an evaluation. She remained in the hospital Wednesday afternoon where she was upgraded to “fair condition” according to 3TV.

Police said the investigation into the kidnapping was underway. Anyone with information about the crime was asked to contact the Scottsdale Police Department.
