There’s been much speculation about who could co-star in the solo “Black Widow” movie along with Scarlett Johansson, and one outlet recently suggested the flick could bring on a “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” character, Mockingbird. Actress Adrianne Palicki seemed enthusiastic about the idea.

The actress, who is currently starring on Fox’s “The Orville,” spotted ComicBook.com’s story on Twitter. She didn’t confirm or deny the theory. Instead, she simply posted a gif of Mockingbird in action on “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”

While she did not say anything specific in the tweet, it seems like Palicki is ready to play the superhero again. Last year, she revealed to International Business Times that she’d be happy to return to the TV show.

“If they ask me, I would absolutely come back,” Palicki told IBT last fall. “I would absolutely make a cameo. For sure.”

Mockingbird, also known as Bobbi Morse, was one of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s top spies, but during a mission gone wrong, she and love interest Hunter (Nick Blood) had to take a loss. They were disavowed, meaning they could never work for another spy organization again.

Bobbi and Hunter’s story wasn’t supposed to end there. The two were written out because they were working on a spinoff series, “Marvel’s Most Wanted,” but unfortunately, ABC opted not to pick up the new series.

Bobbi is just one of the characters fans have speculated could appear in the “Black Widow” movie. Other popular choices include Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg). Some have even suggested Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen), another “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” fan favorite. A lot of spies would make sense if the movie is about Natasha’s early days in S.H.I.E.L.D.

Many fans have also been hoping for Hawkeye/Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) to appear. After all, the characters established in “The Avengers” that they have a long history together. Meanwhile, some comic book readers have been hoping that Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) shows up. Despite the characters barely speaking to each other in the movies, the films have hinted that their paths crossed long before “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”

Audiences will have to wait for casting news. After all, Marvel Studios hasn’t technically confirmed that the “Black Widow” movie is being made. However, reliable outlets have been reporting that progress is being made. Cate Shortland was recently hired to direct the Jac Schaeffer-penned script, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

With no confirmation of the flick itself, there is no release date set.
