The exodus of actors seems to be continuing on “Days of Our Lives,” with another shocking announcement regarding one of the show’s legacy characters.

In addition to a long list of other big names from the NBC soap who are leaving, Greg Vaughan, who portrays Eric Brady and just saw his onscreen character marry Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker), has announced his plans to leave the show as well. While appearing on “General Hospital” stars Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson show “LUCKY in Low Country,” Vaughan said his time had ended at “Days,” hinting he realized it was “time” when the show released the entire cast from their contracts in November 2019 as part of the show’s renewal.

It’s unclear when his character’s exit will be, or how it may affect his onscreen marriage, but his is not the only exit that has happened. Check out the full list of stars who previously announced departures.

Kristian Alfonso

Perhaps the most shocking departure from the show is that of Alfonso, who has portrayed Hope Brady for 37 years. Alfonso announced in July that she had quit the show, and revealed in a later interview that she decided to part ways with the soap when she was told her character was going to be written off for a four-five month period and then return for a romance with a Navy SEAL, but she instead opted out. She also revealed that she would not return for guest arcs, meaning that unless Hope was recast later down the line, it was truly the end of Hope’s story.

Galen Gering (Rafe Hernandez)

Gering confirmed earlier this year that his time as Rafe (a character he portrayed since 2008) had ended and his contract with the show expired. He reportedly finished taping scenes on Feb. 13, meaning that the show's six-month production lead time has him last airing in either August or September. It is currently unclear how his character will be written out.

Stacy Haiduk

In an Instagram post in May, Haiduk, who portrays Kristen DiMera, revealed that once again, her character was heading off-canvas. While her departure was teased to not be a permanent one, and she has since returned for a small guest arc over two recent episodes, it doesn’t appear she is set to make a more concrete return anytime soon.

Kate Mansi

Mansi, who returned as Abigail DiMera in 2019, ended her return run on the show in May, with Abigail heading to Florida for treatment after she started suffering from hallucinations again and was revealed to have been drugged. Though Mansi is stepping away, the character is set to be seen again, with Marci Miller returning to tackle the role once again.

Chandler Massey (Will Horton) and Freddie Smith (Sonny Kiriakis)

The show’s only same-sex super couple, who also had the first male/male wedding in daytime TV, confirmed they were also leaving the show in 2020, and they had been brought back for six episodes following the hiatus, but after that, they were written off the show. Smith has since teased the exit to Soaps.com, saying “It’s such a big moment. I’m not going to answer that one because it’s such a huge moment. I don’t know what I can or cannot share.”

Casey Moss (JJ Devereaux)

While his departure occurred in February, meaning he was likely slated to exit before being officially released from his contract, Moss left the show with his character, JJ Devereaux, heading to Africa for his off-screen grandfather’s funeral, though he never returned with the rest of his family.

Other rumored departures include Victoria Konefal (Ciara Brady) and Camila Banus (Gabi Hernandez), but neither actress has confirmed the rumors.

“Days of Our Lives” airs weekdays on NBC.
