Amazon.com's fourth-quarter operating income rose 56 percent to $405 million, pushed higher by growth in higher-margin businesses, the company reported Tuesday.

Amazon's fourth-quarter revenue rose 22 percent to $21.3 billion.

Further, in 2012, Kindle e-book business revenue surged 70 percent. Amazon's physical book revenue rose 5 percent.
