KEY POINTS

  • AMD officially launched the flagship RDNA 2-based graphics cards
  • AMD Radeon RX 6800 and Radeon RX 6800 XT are now official
  • The new graphics cards are reportedly faster than the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 and RTX 2070 Ti

AMD officially unveiled earlier today the RDNA 2 GPU architecture-based Radeon RX 6800 and RX 6800 XT graphics cards in response to Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 series, which according to a new report are more affordable and faster than the GeForce RTX 3080 and RTX 2080 Ti.

At its presentation, AMD revealed that the Radeon RX 6800 XT costs $649. The RDNA 2 architecture-based graphics card is $50 more affordable than the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 but comparable to the rival graphics card when it comes to performance. AMD shared frame-rate comparisons between the RX 6800 Xt and the RTX 3080 at 4K resolution.

The AMD graphics card came out ahead of its rival for titles like “Forza Horizon 4,” “Borderlands 3” and “Battlefield V.” For its technical specifications, the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT features a game clock of 2015 MHz and 72 compute units. It has 16 GB of GDDR6 memory, which is far superior than the 10 GB of the RTX 3080.

Moreover, AMD confirmed that the Radeon RX 6800 XT would only require 300 watts of total board power, undercutting the GeForce RTX 3080’s 320 watts power rating. Meanwhile, the AMD Radeon RX 6800 is positioned to compete against the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. In terms of price, AMD’s graphics card costs $579 while its rival from Nvidia retails at $599.

The AMD Radeon RX 6800 running on Navi 21 XL GPU at stock clocks could feature 250 watts of TBP. It houses 16 GB of GDDR6 memory with 256-bit bus interface. The upcoming graphics card clocks at 16 Gbps, which could deliver 512 GB/s of network bandwidth.

Additionally, the AMD Radeon RX 6800 features 60 Compute Units of 3840 stream processors. At reference specs, the graphics card features 1815 MHz of game clock speeds and 2105 MHz of boost clock speeds. Fortunately, fans won’t have to wait long for the latest RDNA 2-based graphics cards of AMD.

Both the AMD Radeon RX 6800 Xt and the RX 6800 are scheduled to arrive on Nov 18. Custom variants for both graphics cards would be available on all major AMD board partners. This includes SAPPHIRE , XFX, MSI, PowerColor, Gigabyte, ASUS, and ASRock starting next month.
