The 2011 Yemen unrest that started in February has intensified steadily with protestors demanding the immediate resignation of the current leadership, particularly of President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
The uprising started simultaneously with the Egyptian revolution, with hundreds of protestors thronging the streets of all the major cities of the country. Initially, the protests were against unemployment, corruption and economic conditions but later their demands escalated to calls for the President's resignation.
A unique mode of protest seen in Yemen is the mass hand-art demonstration. Using their hands as canvas, thousands of protestors have resorted to different forms of hand paintings to express their demands for political change.
