Does Notion Ink Adam stand chance against Apple iPad?

Apple’s iPad is the lone tablet that took over the market in 2010 and until today it stays undefeated by competitors. The Apple’s iPad has sold close to 15 million units so far. This year, Apple is already in the limelight with their next tablet iPad 2, the next generation iPad that is expected to feature a resolution of 2048x1536 pixels compared to the present iPad’s 1024x600 pixels resolution. The increase in resolution is to help developers make the iPad more compatible to run Apple’s apps on other machines. The new iPad expected to be released in Q2 features a USB port, SD card slot, front facing camera and 3-axis gyroscopes.
Notion Ink Adam was perceived by many as the tablet that can clearly take on Apple iPad with features and specifications that almost dwarf the present iPad. Meanwhile, Notion Ink Adam has also received favorable reviews from Engadget and Techtree.
The new tablet from Notion Ink comes with a customized version of Android 2.3 (aka Gingerbread) operating system known as Eden which includes almost all the features of Honeycomb 3.0 along with the support for Google Chrome OS and Ubuntu. Once the Honeycomb 3.0 is released Adam will have access to Google’s Android market, until then Notion Ink’s Adam will rely on their own marketplace known as Genesis.

Apple iPad has the iOS 4.2.1 operating system which was released 60 days ago. But the latest news on Apple’s iOS 4.3 which is expected to be released soon has many new features. Among them the media streaming service known as Photo Streaming is expected to be connected to “MobileMe”, a subscription-based collection of online services and software and the “Find my Friends” feature added to its MobileMe service as part of Apple’s social networking in order to bring out similar features like the Facebook.
Notion Ink Adam comes with software supports like Email client, Office Suite, File Browser (Sniffer), Calendar, Webkit Browser, Weather, Music, Navigation and Maps, E-Reader, Paint (Canvas), Longbox Comic E-Reader, Photo Editor, Calulator, Video, Gallery, Clock, Camera, Contacts, Settings, Sound Recorder, Search and Speech Recognition. Also Notion Ink Adam has support for Adobe Flash and is expected to support AIR when it launches.
Apple iPad has its own marketplace, the biggest applications store known as App Store which houses more than 400,000 applications. iPad comes with several other applications Safari, Mail, Photos, Video, YouTube, iPod, iTunes, iBooks, Maps, Notes, Calendar, Contacts and Spotlight Search. iPad runs almost all third party iPhone applications and syncs with iTunes on a Mac or Windows PC.
In terms of hardware, Notion Ink Adam has size of 191x 269x 14 mm and weighs 600–750 g. It features 3 Cell RemovableLithium-Polymer battery, 1 GHz Dual-core ARM Cortex - A9 Nvidia Tegra 250 processor, flash memory 8GB expandable micro-SD slot, LP-DDR2/DDR2 667MHz 1GB RAM, 10.1-in 1024 × 600 pixel TFT Pixel-Qi display or Normal 10.1-in 1024 × 600 pixel LCD display, ULP GPU, 3.5-mm microphone jack and a 3.2MP Swivel Camera. When it comes to input features, Notion has multi-touch touch-screen, headset controls, 3-Axis accelerometer and ambient light Sensor. The connectivity features include Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n), Bluetooth 2.1+A2DP, USB 2.0, HDMI whereas 3G models include UMTS (HSDPA) 850 or 900 MHz.
The camera featured in Notion ink can turn up to 185° and can face the user at - 5° during video chat, with 90° turn can capture a live lecture and take photographs at 180° angle. Also the camera has a video capture capable at 720p and the battery is capable of lasting up to 16 hours and 160 hours on backlight off mode.
Apple iPad on the other hand has a size of 243x 190x 13 mm and weighs 680- 730 g. It features a internal rechargeable non-removable 25 W•h (90 kJ) lithium-polymer battery, 1 GHz Apple A4 processor, Flash memory 16 GB, 32 GB, or 64 GB, 256 MB DRAM built into Apple A4 package (top package of PoP contains two 128 MB dies), 1024 × 768 pixel 9.7-inch (25 cm) diagonal approximately 45 in2 (290 cm2) 132 PPI XGA LED-backlit IPS LCD display, powerVR SGX 535 GPU and 3.5-mm TRS connector audio-out jack.
In terms of input Apple iPad features multi-touch touch-screen, headset controls, proximity and ambient light sensors, 3-axis accelerometer and magnetometer. Its connectivity features include Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n), Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR whereas Wi-Fi plus 3G models have support for UMTS / HSDPA (Tri band–850, 1900, 2100 MHz) and GSM / EDGE (Quad band–850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz).
Apple iPad doesn’t feature any camera but the battery life of the iPad lasts more than 10 hours.
The pricing of Notion Ink Adam is $375.33 for LCD, $425.33 for LCD, WiFi, and 3G, $499.45 for Pixel Qi and Wifi and $549.99 for Pixel Qi, Wifi, and 3G.
Apple iPad price tag for Wi-Fi version is $499 for 16GB, $599 for 32GB and $699 for 64GB. The Wi-Fi plus 3G reads $629 for 16GB, $729 for 32GB and $829 for 64GB.
