Lupe Fiasco’s new single “Words I Never Said’ is released
The second single from Lupe Fiasco’s much anticipated third album, Lasers, is out. Words I Never Said is creating quite a sensation online with clips of the song doing the rounds since its release at midnight.
Produced by British wonder kid Alex Da Kid and featuring Skylar Grey on the hook, the lyrics are true Lupe style - deliberately provoking, as he had already warned during the teasers.
Lupe at present is on tour in Australia, New Zealand attending the Big Day Out 2011 Summer festival.
Lupe’s third album, Laser’s release has been long awaited as Atlantic Records kept on postponing it. An online petition was started by his fans demanding an early release and garnered 5000 signatures on the first day. Atlantic Records has announced the official release date of the latest album as March 8, 2011.
In an interview on KUBE93 Radio, when asked how he had developed such a “rabid” fanbase who passionately react to the motivational messages in his lyrics, Lupe responded; “I don’t know, and to give it context on the other side of it you got people who are just as affected by a Rick Ross record, just in a different way, in a different capacity, in a different direction…” He added, “For me, I chose to put out positive music. I chose to put out music that was uplifting, music that was informative, music that was dropping knowledge… and I think people gravitate towards that.”
Lupe’s real name is Wasalu Muhammad Jacoe and he rose to fame in 2006 after the release of this debut album Food n Liquor. His second album was Lupe Fiasco's The Cool, The single Superstar became a hit, peaking at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.He has released a critically mixed tape series Fahrenheit 1/15 over the internet. Another remix of his - that of Kanye West's Jesus Walks -- entitled Muhammad Walks became very popular with in the Muslim community. His single Kick, Push is also very popular with his fans and was featured in the videogame NBA Live 2007.
Lupe believes in giving clean lyrics and has been very active in Haiti earthquake relief works. He runs his own clothing lines Righteous Kung-Fu and Trilly & Truly; he has also designed sneakers for Reebok.
He has revealed that he is writing a novel which he says is a natural progression in his life, after having written lyrics for songs. His novel is about a window washer and is titled 'Reflections of a Window Washer.'
