Comedy Central announces its first Comedy Awards
Awards show season surely is in full swing. All of entertainment's wittiest people will be honored for what they do best: making the world laugh.
Comedy Central and MTV Networks announced the inaugural presentation of The Comedy Awards. They described it as the first-ever multi-network, multi-platform, annual event dedicated to honoring and celebrating the world of comedy.
The Comedy Awards will tape at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom on March 26 and will air on Sunday, April 10. Comedy Central, Spike, TV Land, VH1 and Nick-at-Nite will all simultaneously broadcast the program.
The show will feature awards for late-night comedy series, stand-up special and traditional nominations for films and television shows.
NBC's hit TV show, 30 Rock is in the lead with seven nods in the best series, directing, writing and all of the acting categories. The Office and Modern Family each received four nominations.
The films Easy A, Cyrus and Kick-Ass each received four nominations. Ricky Gervais was nominated for his stand-up special, Ricky Gervais: Out of England 2.
It's an honor to be nominated for my stand-up at this, the first-ever 'The Comedy Awards,' he said. In 68 years time, I intended to host it and get it cancelled.
Some types of television shows, often snubbed by award shows like the Emmys or The Golden Globes, will receive recognition at The Comedy Awards.
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is nominated for best comedy series while Eastbound and Down is nominated for best comedy series and best comedy actor, for Danny McBride.
