Illinois man invests two-and-half years and $200,000 on fake online girlfriend
A Illinoise man was in disbelief after learning that he invested two and a half years of his life as well as $200,000 on a fake online girlfriend, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
The 48-year-old man from Naperville was in for a rude shock when he contacted the police regarding his online girlfriend, who he believed was kidnapped in London.
After the man approached the police seeking help to rescue his girlfriend, the police found that woman he was dating online did not exist.
The man informed the police that he was in the online relationship for two and a half years, during which he wired $200,000 to several different bank accounts in Nigeria, Malaysia, England and the United States.
Police were able to conclude that the woman and the relationship was a scam on finding that an identification card she provided him ended up being a sample driver's license from Florida.
