Mobile Entertainment To Become $52.8 Bln Market in 2015: Report
The market for mobile entertainment, including mobile gaming, mobile music and mobile TV, is expected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 9.5 percent to reach $52.8 billion in 2015, according to a new report from IE Market Research Corp.
In 2009, the market for mobile entertainment was worth $32.9 billion.
The report, which covers more than 50 countries and regions, said Mobile TV market would witness significant growth.
Among different categories of mobile multimedia, we expect that Mobile TV will see the biggest growth in revenues over the next five years, Nizar Assanie, Vice President (Research) at IEMR said in a statement.
Assanie projects global mobile TV revenues to grow to $6.6 billion in 2015 from $2.52 billion in 2009.
Meanwhile, the report says the U.S. has become the global hot-bed of mobile multimedia innovation both at the network and application layers, thanks to the launch of 4G networks.
U.S. operators are about ½ a year to 1 year ahead of their Western European counterparts in the launch of 4G networks. This combined with the fact that many of the world's largest technology companies, publishers, and content distributors are also based out of the U.S. now means that the U.S. has become the launching pad for many new and innovative services in the mobile multimedia space, Assanie said.
