Carmelo Anthony’s Five-Game Knicks Report Card

A lot of fanfare came with the addition of Carmelo Anthony to the New York Knicks, but the results have been pretty consistent compared to his numbers with the Denver Nuggets.

In his first five games playing for the Knicks, the team has won three-of-five games, which included a road victory against high-flying Miami, but also a loss to bottom-dweller Cleveland.

Anthony is averaging 26 points per game, which is slightly above his season average (25.2) and his career average (24.8).

But from the field, Anthony is shooting just 40.5 percent, which is below the 45.2 percent he was shooting with Denver this season.

There was interest in how productive Anthony would be when he joined the Knicks, and whether his numbers would suffer now that he has a superstar teammate in Amare Stoudemire.

But aside from field-goal percentage, Anthony has been playing to his usual level.

Stoudemire, on the other hand, has seen his field goal percentage rise. He has shot 53.3 percent in the last five games, but his points per game and rebounds are down slightly.

Now that Anthony has gotten all the introductions out of the way, the stretch run is about to begin.

The Knicks have 23 games remaining, and are five games out of the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference. Philadelphia, meanwhile, trail the Knicks for the sixth seed by only one-and-a-half games.

Should the playoffs start today, the Knicks would face the Bulls, and Chicago would have home-court advantage in the best-of-seven series.
