Osama bin Laden killed in a mansion outside the Pakistani capital Islamabad
Osama bin Laden has been killed in a mansion outside the Pakistani capital Islamabad and his body has been recovered by U.S. authorities, U.S. officials said on Sunday.
NBC News, CBS and ABC News has reported that they have a confirmed report of Osama's death.
He had been the subject of a search since he eluded U.S. soldiers and Afghan militia forces in a large-scale assault on the Tora Bora mountains in 2001. The trail quickly went cold after he disappeared and many intelligence officials believed he had been hiding in Pakistan.
Obama will announce the news to the nation the White House, almost 10 years after the Sept. 11 attacks took place that bin Laden arranged.
Around 3,000 people died on Sept. 11, most at the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Virginia just outside of Washington.
Osama was reportedly shot in the head in Pakistan and his body is in U.S. hands.
He was the founder of the jihadist organization al-Qaeda. He died at the age of 54.
