If you enjoy munching on burgers, pizzas, junk food and other unhealthy dishes, you are likely to die of a massive stroke. If you don't change your eating habit, you will die at a young age. It's ok to indulge in such junk however; constant intake of it isn't healthy. You have to decide now that you will devour on foods that is good for your heart.
Ground oat groats or otherwise known as oatmeal is a heart-healthy food. Health conscious individuals usually advise to start a day with a bowl of oatmeal. If you eat a bowl of oatmeal everyday, your blood cholesterol level lowers down. It is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, potassium and folate. Make sure that you choose the ones that are steel-cut rather than instant oats. They have a higher content of fiber. If you find it bland, you can put in a teaspoon of honey and your favorite fruit. It can be berries, bananas, apples or peaches.
Eat an oily fish called the salmon. This is quite healthy because of the high protein, high omega-3 fatty acids it contains. Not only that, it even contains high levels of vitamin D. You can try indulging at least two servings in a week. You would be happy to know that the risk of dying from a heart attack is decreased to one-third. It even contains an antioxidant called the carotenoid astaxanthin. It's one of the most powerful antioxidant. If you are not a fan of salmon, you can always have tuna, mackerel, sardines or herring.
Having guacamole in your diet is ok. It's because an avocado is a good fat. It is a monounsaturated fat that can decrease the LDL levels and at the same time increase the HDL cholesterol. What is more is that, the absorption of other carotenoids like beta-carotene and lycopene is made easier.
Cook your dishes with olive oil. It's a monounsaturated fat that can decrease the bad fat levels that you have. You can opt for the extra-virgin or virgin varieties. Instead of frying your fish with butter, choose olive oil. Rather than having a ranch dressing for your salad, you can have a balsamic vinaigrette incorporated with extra virgin olive oil.
