Cameron gears up for 'Avatar' sequels
Canadian film director James Cameron has expressed his intention to return to Pandora with the release of back-to-back sequels of Avatar with Avatar 2 and Avatar 3, a report said.
Avatar, which is one of the highest-grossing films of all time after Cameron’s Titanic, set new box office records after its release in December 2009. The movie was the first to gross more than $2 billion and was nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best picture and Best director, and won three for Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects, and Best Art Direction.
Hollywood Reporter said Cameron is building a set at MBS Media Campus in Manhattan Beach, CA to make the location for his future Avatar operations.
Avatar 2 and 3 will be filmed back-to-back with the help of MBS’s massive production stages, combining his office and soundstages into a single unit.
The first sequel will focus on Pandora’s ocean, but will also feature the rainforest from the original movie, the report said.
The last movie to be filmed at the MBS was Marvel Studios’ Thor.
Avatar 2 is set for a December 2014 release, while the next sequel will follow in December 2015, reported Comingsoon website.
