Boko Haram Blamed For More Killings In Nigeria
Boko Haram has struck yet again.
The Nigerian Islamist terrorist group, which has already wreaked havoc across the country, has killed at least ten people in the northeastern city of Maiduguri by setting off a bomb in a beer garden frequented by soldiers and policemen, according to military officials.
The bomb was planted at the middle of the 'mammy market' and at least 10 people have been killed and several others seriously injured from the explosion, an army officer told reporters.
However, another source cited fewer deaths.
There has been a bomb explosion at a market belonging to the police in Wulari area of the city, Brigadier-General Jack Okechukwu Nwaogbo told Agence France Presse.
So far we have eight dead and 13 injured. These are from those counted at the scene.”
Another witness, Umar Kaulaha, told foreign media that he heard a loud bang followed by dark clouds of smoke from the beer garden There was confusion and horrified cries as people scampered to safety. I saw three military vans leaving the neighborhood with the dead and the wounded from the blast. From my estimation, around a dozen people may have died.”
Another ten people, including a local politician, were killed in the city in various shootings.
All the killings are believed to have been carried out by Boko Haram, which has declared war against the state and seeks to establish Shariah law in northern Nigeria.
However, no group has claimed responsibilities for the attacks yet.
Still, the recent attacks bear the hallmark of Boko Haram, which has targeted state symbols. Its most spectacular attack was on police headquarters in Abuja last week, which killed more than two dozen people.
