The woman who sprung to the defense of Rupert Murdoch during an attempted assault at a Parliamentary committee hearing was his wife, Wendi Deng Murdoch.A man with a pie covered in either whipped cream or shaving cream attacked News International head Rupert Murdoch Tuesday at a parliamentary hearing over the News of the World hacking scandal.
Murdoch's wife Wendi stood up and tried to block the attacker, and appeared to punch him defense of her husband.
TV host and former News of the World editor Piers Morgan tweeted:
Go Wendi....what a punch! #ChineseSuperpower and Wendi just stole all the headlines. That idiot protestor, allowed in by MPs, has single-handedly won the day's PR for the Murdochs.
A man has been apprehended by British police. Apparently, the man shouted the word greedy before he stood up and moved toward the News Corp. chairman.
Wendi, born in 1968 in China, met Murdoch in 1997 in Hong Kong. They married two years later, soon after he divorced Anna Maria Torv Murdoch.
It was also the second marriage for Wendi.
Wendi and Rupert have two children: Grace Helen Murdoch and Chloe Murdoch.
