U.S. gov't testing technology to evade China, Iran web censors
The U.S. government is testing new technology in China and Iran to evade web screening protocols of restrictive regimes, a technology official told Reuters.
Ken Berman, the head of IT at the Broadcasting Board of Governors is testing a system called “feed over email” which can deliver various forms of information including news, audio and data through widely used e-mail services including those used by major U.S. Internet companies.
“We have people testing it in China and Iran,” he said, according to Reuters.
He said the project is in its early stages.
Another developer of the technology, Sho Ho, told Reuters that the software could be used to work on most types of mobile phones.
The board describes itself as an [i]ndependent, autonomous entity responsible for all US government and government sponsored, non-military, international broadcasting.
