Beyonce and Jay-Z are expecting their first baby.

Beyonce made the announcement Sunday at the MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles. The news came as a surprise to Beyonce fans because the couple are known to be private about their personal lives and they have previously repeatedly ignored and denied such speculation.

Twitter exploded with so much activity that Beyonce's pregnancy set a record.

Ever since Beyonce and Jay-Z married in 2008 there have been years of pregnancy rumors -- all denied by the couple.

There is no word on the baby's gender or when it is due, but Beyonce has said that she wants a boy.
