Mark Zuckerberg Richer Than Google CEOs

According to Forbes' annual Richest People in America list, also known as the Forbes 400, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has edged out Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page for the first time with a personal net worth of $17.5 billion.

Microsoft founder Bill Gates claimed Forbes' No. 1 spot this year with a net worth of $59 billion, followed by Warren Buffet ($39 billion), Oracle CEO Larry Ellison ($33 billion), and philanthropist brothers Charles and David Koch, worth about $25 billion each.

Other techies that made the list, besides Gates, Ellison, and Zuckerberg, include Michael Dell (No. 18), Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer (No. 19), Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen (No. 23), Apple founder Steve Jobs (No. 39), eBay founder Pierre Omidyar (No. 50), Google CEO Eric Schmidt (No. 51), and George Lucas (No. 107).

The reason for Jobs being so low on the list, despite his company being the world's most valuable and Jobs himself being named Fortune's CEO of the Decade, is because most of Jobs' wealth is in the form of preferentially owned stock. According to CNNMoney, Jobs owns about 5 million shares of Apple and 138 million shares of Disney, which he received when Disney bought Pixar for $7.4 billion back in 2006.

Zuckerberg, who was No. 35 on last year's list, is now No. 14 on this year's edition, just below Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, who has a personal fortune worth $19.1 billion. Zuckerberg sits below Brin and Page, both tied at the No. 15 spot with net values of $16.7 billion each.

The man who co-founded Facebook.com out of his Harvard dormitory has been keeping busy. In the last year alone, Zuckerberg donated $100 million to Newark schools, dined and hosted a town hall meeting with President Obama, and inspired David Fincher's critically-acclaimed film The Social Network, which won three Academy Awards and four Golden Globe awards. Zuckerberg was also named Time magazine's Person of the Year.

Zuckerberg is hosting Facebook's annual f8 developers conference Thursday, where he is announcing Timeline, a way for users to experience their life's story through Facebook, and Open Graph, which allows users to connect to each other directly to share movies, music, and other media with one another.
