Murmurations: Starlings' Dance Shows Winter Will Soon be Here [VIDEO]
Every fall, thousands of starlings put on a spectacular dance show just before dusk over the Gretna sky in Scotland in a breathtaking phenomenon called murmurations. This is when a huge flock of birds that are in migration form a magical shape-shifting flight pattern in the sky.
The birds tend to flock together for protection and can reach speeds of up to 20 mph, according to the Huffington Post.
Scientists aren't sure how the starlings do their complex dance and TIME has reported that these tiny birds have a quicksilver reaction time of under 100 milliseconds, which prevents them from colliding with each other in the air.
Vimeo user Sophie Windsor Clive was recently canoeing on the River Shannon in Ireland when she witnessed the beautiful phenomenon.
Clive had her camera with her and this is a video of what she saw.
