Lumiere Festival Turns Durham into a Fairy City [PHOTOS]
Here's an entire city that has been transformed into a virtual fairy world.
Durham in northern England is dazzling, sporting light works everywhere: Landmarks, the river, bridges, and streets are all lit up with glittering colors.
The annual Durham Lumiere Festival has brought together 35 British and international artists who decked out the town with their magical craft. The event, the UK's largest light festival, will conclude on Sunday.
Highlights of the four-night event include large-scale projections, as well as neon and light-emitting diode installations.
A medieval castle, an ancient university, cobbled streets, and the city's cathedral are among the landmarks that have been decorated.
Projection artist Ross Ashton has illuminated the pages of Lindisfarne Gospels. Ashton has been projecting the Gospels pages across the 100-meter span of Durham Cathedral over four consecutive nights of the festival for the past few couple of years.
Have a look at some of the installations at the festival as people gather to watch the grandeur.
