Principal Sharron Smalls' Sexy Facebook Photo Stirs Controversy
Principal Sharron Smalls is under fire after her students distributed a sexy Facebook photo of her getting drenched in chocolate syrup by a shirtless man.
Students posted the photo of Smalls, standing pressed against the shirtless man, around the Jane Addams High School, reports The New York Daily News. The principal was on the dance floor grinding with the gentleman as the photo was taken.
Smalls used the shot as her Facebook profile picture until this week.
I cannot believe my principal would dance like that, said Christine Daniels, 18, who is a senior at the school, reported The Daily News (UK).
She doesn't want us to come to school with short shorts and then she turns around and does this. It's gonna be bad for college, very bad, said senior Tehrra Smith, 17.
This is not the first controversy Smalls has had to face in recent days. The 43-year-old principal along with Jane Addams High School are both currently under investigation for a credit-swap scam that allowed hundreds to receive a diploma from the Bronx, NY, school without taking required courses.
Smalls has been giving students chemistry credits for cosmetology courses and geography credit for tourism courses, reports The NY Daily News. The fraud may lead to over 100 seniors not graduating from the F-rated school since they lack high-credit math scores needed to advance.
When you are in a leadership position in a school, you have to consider the potential downside of exposing your personal life on social media, said Education Department spokeswoman Margie Feinberg.
This is a school that has for years performed far below citywide averages, Feinberg said. This is why we are considering phasing it out.
As for the photos, teachers are not surprised at the risqué display.
These photos are just another example of our leader's poor judgment, said Stephen Tavano, 58. He has taught math at Jane Addams for 19 years and heads the local chapter of the teachers union.
No matter how this turns out, principal Smalls needs to go, he said.
