AAA Offers Free Tipsy Tow in Northern California, Nevada and Utah on New Year Eve; Other Free Ride Options
The American Automobile Association (AAA) has relieved party goers of their biggest tension this New Year eve... It is offering free rides back home for drunk drivers and their vehicles.
With AAA's commendable free community service program, this year people returning late nights from clubs and parties don't really need to risk their lives and drive with impaired vision.
Book a Tipsy Tow cab on 800-222-4357 (AAA-Helpline number) and say I need a Tipsy Tow, and a truck will be on its way, AAA announced in a statement.
If you've been celebrating by drinking alcohol, don't get behind the wheel. Give AAA a call and we'll make sure you get home safely, the statement said.
AAA's Tipsy Tow program is offering a free ten-mile drop home for drunken drivers and riders from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day in Northern California, Nevada and Utah.
In case you aren't sure if the service is available in your city... go to AAA's Web site and enter your zip code in the box given on the left. If the service is available, the site will direct you to its Tipsy Tow program page else it will redirect to the main Web site.
It is not the first time that the Regional Transport Commission is offering such services. This is the 27th year and RTC says more than 8,000 people rode their buses for free last New Year's Eve, KTVN reported.
The service is open for everyone but is restricted to a few specific areas on ten holidays in the year. Apart from the New Year's Eve, it is available on Super Bowl, St. Patrick's Day, Cinco de Mayo, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas eve.
The prime concern after partying hard and getting sloshed is to reach back safely. Most youngsters do not hesitate risking their life while drinking and driving. Even the sign boards all across the city that reads Don't Drink and Drive in bold letters aren't proving useful in stopping them.
Several other private agencies are offering free drop service on New Year's Eve.
For free ride home within Alameda, Berkeley and Oakland city limits, one can call Veteran Cab at (800) 281-4488.
For a free ride home within San Francisco city, call Luxor Cab at (415) 282-4141.
Call (916) 444-2222 for a ride within Sacramento (free upto $30 only).
One can check out other plausible options and details on National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Drunk Driving Prevention Facebook page.
According to the AAA's statement, the recent National Highway Traffic Safety Administration survey states that over 20 percent of all motorists in the past year have driven a motor vehicle within two hours of drinking alcohol and about 13% of the total population has done so in the past 30 days.
