The nude photo of Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani has enraged several members of the Muslim community, particularly since one of the more principal tenets of Islamic fundamentalism has always been to ban women from any degree of nudity.

The decision by Farahani, therefore, is a bold one and one that has, predictably, sparked controversy across the world. However, she isn't the first Islamic actress who has shed her clothes and her inhibitions.

There are at least 3 others who have already bared it all, on different occasions, and faced similar criticism from conservative families and the religious community.

Who are these 4 actresses?

Golshifteh Farahani

Golshifteh Farahani, an Iranian actress whose nude photos were published in a magazine called Madame Le Figaro, has been banned from entering her native country, following a decision by the Iranian government. Farahani, who played a pivotal role in the Hollywood film Body of Lies, opposite Leonardo Di Caprio, was then also condemned by the conservative Iranian regime for violating Islamic law by appearing without a hijab in a few scenes.

Meanwhile, Farahani is already living outside of Iran; she left the country last year to protect the strict rules mandated by Islamic law and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Iranian cinema.

Veena Malik

Veena Malik, is the (in)famous Pakistani actress who appeared almost naked on the cover of the December issue of FHM India, with just her arms and legs covering the more intimate details of her anatomy.

The image infuriated her homeland and as a result of being so overtly bold, she has now been disowned by her father. Moreover, the father, who lives in Pakistan, has even demanded she be punished if those photographs prove to be real. Malik, 33, denies the photographs are real and has apparently sued the magazine for doctoring the photographs.

Incidentally, according to the Pakistani constitution, no woman or actress is allowed to go nude, whether for films, photographs or ad shoots.

Malik's controversial photographs outraged Pakistani government authorities so much that Home Minister Rehman Malik announced: if the news is true any strict action would be taken against Veena.

Sila Sahin

Sila Sahin, a 25-year-old Turkish-German actress living in Berlin, shocked some of her conservative Muslim fans by posing nude for the cover of the German edition of Playboy with one breast exposed.

Sahin later said her provocative photographs were her way of demanding the liberty she expected and deserved, from the Muslim world and society.

I did it because I wanted to be free at last, she said, These photographs are liberation from the restrictions of my childhood.

Her conservative family, however, did not support her protest against the conservative restrictions faced by all Turkish women (in the name of religion) and cut off all connections with her.

Nadia Boussetta

Nadia Boussetta, another Muslim actress, who posed for the cover of Tunivision magazine wearing only a waistcoat and a pair of jeans, while revealing cleavage and leaving her cropped hair uncovered.

That one photograph was enough to annoy Islamic authorities who shunned her attempts to promote her film Tunisian Tales. Her fans were equally critical and showed their anger on her Facebook page with several criticisms.

My nude photo is very normal, it was meant to bring publicity to my new film, said Boussetta, in support of her photograph.

One commentator on her Facebook page wrote: Your hair and your bust welcome doomsday, while many other critics accused Boussetta of using her body as a cheap commodity and of promoting vice among youth.
