Two lucky women and two men became the first same-sex couples to wed in the 61st-floor area of the Empire State Building, New York, Tuesday, following the legalization of gay and lesbian marriages by the NYC government in June, 2011.

The women couple, Stephanie Figarelle, 29, and Lela McArthur, 24, first met in an anatomy class at the University of Alaska Anchorage and the male couple, Phil Fung and Shawn Klein, met at a night club in Manhattan, the Associated Press reported.

I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with you, Stephanie Figarelle told Lela McArthur.

I will always love you forever with every beat of my heart, said McArthur, as they exchanged their wedding ring and kissed each other.

Several other gay couples exchanged wedding vows on Valentine’s Day across the world, including Los Angeles, California and Peru.
