Natalie Portman's Vintage Dior Oscar Gown Auctioned for $50,000
The exclusive vintage gown worn by Black Swan star Natalie Portman for the 2012 Oscars has been sold for an impressive $50,000 at an auction Wednesday.
Portman, a brand ambassador of Dior, borrowed the blood red polka dot gown from fashion dealer Rare Vintage. The elaborate size 4 gown has been designed by Christian Dior in the year 1954. It comes from the spring/summer 1954 collection created by the couture designer just three years prior to his untimely death.
However, shortly after, the gown was put up for sale by Rare Vintage on 1stdibs.com and was sold for $50,000.
The New York Post reported that the buyer was an unknown British couture collector.
Natalie's dress is amazing. It's an actual 1954 spring couture dress...She was actually going to wear another dress but then I got a call from the woman at Rare Vintage and she was like, 'You should see this dress for Natalie.' So we went and she put it on, and it needed zero alterations, and Natalie was like, 'This was meant to be, wasn't it?' And I said, 'I guess it was', Portman's top stylist Kate Young told Intothegloss.com.
