Woody Allen ‘To Rome With Love’ Trailer: IQ in Euros, Allen on Camera and the Return of Benigni [VIDEO]
Paris, meet Rome.
Woody Allen has (finally) released the first trailer for his much-anticipated love letter to Rome, appropriately titled To Rome With Love, nearly one year after Midnight in Paris took the world by storm.
Written and directed, of course, by Allen, the film also stars Allen, along with a star-studded cast that includes Alec Baldwin, Penelope Cruz, Jesse Eisenberg, Ellen Page, Greta Gerwig, Judy Davis and Robert Benigni.
Yes, that same Benigni who made Oscar history when he became the first non-English speaking actor (in a non-English speaking part) to win the Best Actor Oscar (the history also had a little something to do with his chair-climbing journey to the stage that evening).
To Rome With Love is another delightful gem from Allen, who, at 76, shows no sign of slowing down. In 2011, the New York legend made history, when Midnight in Paris became his biggest grossing film of all time, with more than $56 million in North American box office sales (a record previously held by Hanna and Her Sisters, which grossed more than $40 million in 1986).
At first look, To Rome With Love doesn't contain any surprises (and it's not necessarily a bad thing). Allen plays his usual self, there are intersecting stories involving complex characters, and of course, there's Rome, in all its glory.
But back to Allen, who delivers one of the best lines of the trailer.
The kid's a Communist, the father's a mortician . . . does the mother run a leper colony? he says after meeting his onscreen daughter's boyfriend.
To Rome With Love opens in New York and Los Angeles June 22. Scroll down for the film's first trailer, courtesy of Yahoo! Movies and TrailersAddicted.
