It seems like Russia might be moving the world closer to a zombie apocalypse. Last week Anatoly Serdyukov, Russian defense minister, announced plans for a new electromagnetic weapon. Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that Russia has been working on mind-bending psychotronic guns that can effectively turn people into zombies.

How exactly will this piece of technology work? If you are unfortunate enough to be in front of the weapon it will attack your central nervous system. Based off of previous research done on radiation guns, these low-frequency waves can affect brain cells, which could essentially lead to mind control, reports the Herald Sun.

Radiation from the guns is similar to what can be found in microwave ovens. The weapon used for achieving political and strategic goals, could very well be put into use by the end of the decade, reported the Daily Mail. Such high-tech weapons systems will be comparable in effect to nuclear weapons, but will be more acceptable in terms of political and military ideology, said Putin.

Russia understands that these weapons are not toys. This is a highly serious weapon, said Anatoly Tsyganok, head of the Military Forecasting Centre in Moscow. Radiation can damage internal organs, control behavior and may lead to suicide.

This weapon isn't exactly new. According to the Daily Mail, the U.S. and Russia have been secretly working on electromagnetic weapons since the 1950s. A form of these weapons has also been used to control crowds. When it was used for dispersing a crowd and it was focused on a man, his body temperature went up immediately as if he was thrown into a hot frying pan, said Tsyganok.

Long-term effects of the weapon are currently unknown, although a former member (now deceased) of the Russian foreign intelligence agency warned that the weapons are many times more powerful than in the Matrix films.
