Matthew Owens: Angry Mob Beats White Man, ‘Justice For Trayvon’ [VIDEO]
An angry mob brutally attacked a man in front of his house after he told a group of kids to to stop playing basketball on Saturday night. Matthew Owens was hit with bricks, chairs, pipes and paint cans on his own front porch in Alabama by a group of 20 people who reportedly stated, That's justice for Trayvon, after they were done beating Owens to within an inch of his life.
Matthew Owens is still in the hospital with severe head injuries. He reportedly pleaded with his attackers as they rained down on him.
A witness who asked to remain anonymous for his own safety described the violent episode to local15tv.com:
I heard Matthew saying, ' I'm sorry, man, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. And then, the next thing, before I could get to the door, because we have it all dead-bolted and everything, and before I could get it open, I heard all the beating and banging. He was laying on the ground full of blood. I mean, it was horrible. His head, everything. Blood was pouring from his head, both sides. And his whole body was drenched in blood.
The Mobile, Alabama police department is still looking for members of the mob who attacked Matthew Owens. According to the police Owens fussed at a group of kids playing basketball in front of his home on a Saturday night. The kids left but a group of adults returned later ready to enact their twisted form of vigilante justice.
The police are still looking for Matthew Owen's attackers, and are encouraging anyone with information regarding the identity of the attackters to contact crimestoppers.
Owen's sister, Ashley Parker witnessed the event, and told wkrg.com: 'It was the scariest thing I have ever witnessed.' She claims that the mob was composed entirely of African Americans.
Parker said that as the mob left one member called out, Now that's justice for Trayvon, referencing Trayvon Martin, an African-American teenager who was shot and killed in Florida at the hands of neighborhood watch member George Zimmerman, who is claiming self-defense and is currently on trial after going into hiding for several weeks.
Fury over Trayvon's death seems to be reaching a boiling point, as a growing online mob calls out for justice and signs of violence poor out into the street, with some people even threatening to kill neighborhood watch volunteers as a form of justice.
Zimmerman is being charged with second degree murder and took the stand in court on Friday, where he apologized for Martin's death in front of the teenage boy's family.
