iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak: Absinthe 2.0.4, Rocky Racoon v1.0-3 Released With Support For iPad 2,4
Thanks to the prominent members of the Chronic Dev Team, the jailbreak community finally got to experience all the goodness of an untethered jailbreak on the latest version of Apple's mobile operating system. The team of jailbreakers released Absinthe 2.0 at the Hack In The Box security conference in Amsterdam last week and thereby ended the wait for an untethered jailbreak for devices running iOS 5.1.1.
At the time of release, it was clearly mentioned that Absinthe 2.0 would cover the majority of iOS devices, except for the third generation Apple TV, and that the iPad 2,4 will be added to the list of supporting devices later.
On Wednesday, the Chronic Dev Team has done that too by pushing out yet another update of the Absinthe tool. The popular untethered jailbreak tool has been updated to version 2.0.4 that includes support for the previously left alone iPad 2,4.
Absinthe 2.0.4 is out with iPad2,4 support. Thanks to everyone who helped!! Got many ppl to send me data and sadly can't mention them all, iOS hacker planetbeing tweeted.
#Absinthe 2.0.4 is now live, support for iPad2,4 is here, read another tweet by the Chronic Dev Team.
The iPad 2,4 is a late Wi-Fi only version of the second generation iPad. After introducing the third generation iPad, Apple started producing the new version of the iPad 2 with a slight change in its internal hardware to improve the battery performance.
Released with a price cut, the iPad 2,4 features new S0C, which is 32 nanometer as compared to 45 nanometer S0C in its predecessor.
As noted by Redmond Pie, the new Absinthe 2.0.4 has also been accompanied by an updated version (v1.0-3) of the Rocky Racoon package in Cydia. The release of the new Rocky Racoon v1.0-3, coupled with Absinthe 2.0.4, means that the highly alcoholic software now works with iOS 5.1.1 on devices that include iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod Touch 3/4G, iPhone 4 GSM new build 9b208, Apple TV2, iPad, iPad 2, iPad 2,4 and the New iPad 3.
According to official statistics from the Chronic Dev Team, ever since the release of Absinthe 2.0, more than a million of iOS devices have been jailbroken, a figure that includes a quarter of a million third-generation iPads. Now, with the release of the updated versions of both Absinthe and Rocky Racoon, that number is expected grow even more, the report says.
Here're the download links:
- Absinthe v2.0.4 Mac OSX (10.5, 10.6, 10.7)
- Absinthe v2.0.4 Windows (XP/Vista/Win7)
- Absinthe v2.0.4 Linux (x86/x86_64)
Users should note that the process to jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 untethered on iPad 2,4 using Absinthe 2.0.4 would be the same. You can refer to out step-by-step guide posted here.
Meanwhile, users are highly recommended to save their iOS 5.1.1 blobs. If they ever update to any new firmware accidently and lose their jailbreak, these blobs will allow them to downgrade to the fully jailbroken iOS 5.1.1.
