James Eagan Holmes Had Profile On Sex Website, Plus Everything Else We Know About The Colorado Shooting Suspect [PHOTO]
One day after the Colorado theater shooting that rocked the country, Police are slowly releasing everything they now know about alleged gunman James Eagan Holmes.
The 24-year-old man who police say opened fire early Friday on a movie audience was a doctoral student at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Aurora.
Holmes was reportedly in the school's doctoral neuroscience program but was in the process of withdrawing at the time of the shooting, university officials told CNN.
As a grad student, you have an opportunity to work for the university in the research program for the programs that you're studying, university spokeswoman Jacque Montgomery said. He worked in the neurosciences program. It is a paid position.
A syllabus obtained by CNN that lists Holmes as a student at the medical school shows that he may have taken a class in which he studied topics as diverse as substance abuse, schizophrenia, depression and other disorders.
In the fall of 2006, he entered the University of California, Riverside, graduating with a B.S. in neuroscience in the spring of 2010. Academically, he was at the top of the top, Chancellor Timothy P. White told reporters Friday.
Holmes was a scholarship student who graduated with highest honors, said White, and he had an obvious intellectual capacity.
The man who police say acted alone when he shot up the Century 16 Theater in Colorado lived in a small one-bedroom apartment on Paris Street in Aurora, in Apartment 10, within walking distance of the school. The building's tenants are primarily mostly students involved in health studies, CNN reports.
In addition to his education, Holmes was also apparently interested in sexual social-networks. A profile, with a clear photo, on a popular sex website, appears to be that of the Colorado shooting suspect, and it appears to be authentic, sources connected to the website tell TMZ.
Thirty Mile Zone is reporting that the profile appeared on the website adultfriendfinder.com just days before the Dark Knight Rises massacre. The profile included a cryptic message on the top which reads, Will you visit me in prison?
Sources at the website said they have confirmed that the profile was created by Holmes. Further investigations tracked the IP address back to Aurora, Colo. TMZ reports that the account info for the profile (such as the address and DOB) matches up with Holmes' personal information.
In the profile, Holmes describes himself as a light/social drinker, and in the section where he's asked if he smokes or does drugs, he answered, I'd prefer not to say.
Holmes created the profile on July 5 and last logged in to the site sometime in the past three days.
Law enforcement is reportedly looking at the profile to determine its authenticity and relevance.
Not long after surrendering to authorities in the parking lot of the Century 16 Theater, Holmes reportedly told police that he had booby-trapped his third-floor apartment.
As a result, authorities evacuated the entire apartment building and four others nearby after Holmes made the statement about explosives to police, Oates said.
We are not sure what we're dealing with in the home, Aurora Police Chief Daniel Oates said. They appear to be incendiary devices; there's some chemical elements there. ... They're linked together with all kinds of wires. As a layman, it's not something I've ever seen before.
In the early morning hours of Sat., July 21, Colorado police told reporters they hope to enter the booby trapped apartment of the movie theater shooting suspect soon, but trip wire removal may include detonation, boom and fire.
According to Aurora Police Chief Daniel Oates, the suspect's sole interaction with the police department prior to the Dark Knight massacre was an October 2011 summons for speeding. UCR police have no record of any contact with Holmes, the school said.
Tom Mai, a neighbor of the Holmes family in San Diego, described Holmes to reporters as clean-cut, quiet, responsible.
