New Pussy Riot Song: Lyrics Slam Vladimir Putin While Russian Police Hunt For Remaining Members

Russian punk band Pussy Riot has released a new song lambasting Russian President Vladimir Putin after being found guilty Friday and sentenced to two years in jail on charges of "hooliganism driven by religious hatred." Authorities are searching for the band's remaining members while outraged bold-faced names continue to voice their support for the group.

The new song, "Putin Lights Up The Fires," features lyrics that seek to lambaste the Russian president's administration and incite outrage, with lyrics like "The country is going, the county is going into the streets boldly." (Check out the full lyrics below).

The track is the band's first release since "Virgin Mary, Please Drive Putin Away," which the group performed in a one-minute guerrilla appearance at Moscow's Cathedral of Christ Our Savior in February, leading to their arrest and trial.

As three of the band's members -- Maria Alekhina, 24, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova 23, and Ekaterina Samucevich, 29 -- are headed off to the slammer, authorities are seeking two remaining members who managed to escape.

"We have launched a separate criminal case against the unknown members of the Pussy Riot band, and are seeking to establish their identities," a police spokesperson told the Interfax news agency. The band often performed masked.

Prominent musicians continued to decry the sentence. Madonna, one of the group's more prominent supporters, called their sentence "harsh and inhumane."

"I call on all those who love freedom to condemn this unjust punishment. I urge artists around the world to speak up in protest against this travesty. They've spent enough time in jail. I call on all of Russia to let Pussy Riot go free."

The last line refers to Belarussan dictator Alexander Lukashenko. May 6 is when protests against Putin's inauguration were violently repressed by the police.
