The Best Oscar Night Party Ideas 2014
It’s just a few more days until Cate Blanchett and Amy Adams face off at the 86th annual Academy Awards. But even if you’ve been too busy counting F-bombs in “The Wolf of Wall Street” to think about what to do for your Oscar-themed party on Sunday, it’s not too late to troll the Internet for ideas. In fact, we’ve done the work for you. The predictions are already in. (Watch out, Nate Silver.) And now IBTimes has culled together some of the best Oscar night party ideas for 2014. In the end, it doesn’t matter if “American Hustle” undeservedly beats out “Her.” It’s the journey that matters. Party on.
Eclectic Party Ideas From Pinterest
Those who were quick to write off Pinterest as a passing fad have clearly never used it to cherry-pick great ideas for themed parties. From Super Bowl parties to Friday the 13th parties, the image-curation site is emerging as the go-to place for procrastinating party planners. This year, Pinterest user “Mrs. M” has you covered for Oscar night, with a board of more than two dozen concepts to get your creative juices flowing. Care for a “tuxedo laughing cow cheese appetizer”? Or maybe Hollywood Sign cupcakes are more your thing. Either way, Mrs. M has you pinned. There’s even a set of printable Hollywood party “event ticket” invitations. Check out the full list here.
Oscar Recipes From Wolfgang Puck
OK, so you weren’t invited to the Governors Ball this year. You can still eat and drink like the stars, courtesy of the celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck. The Academy’s party blog has some of the recipes that Puck is serving at the annual post-Oscars soiree. The Austrian chef is celebrating his 20th year as the official caterer of the Governors Ball. (You can see the full menu here.) Among the dishes from the master chef this year are smoked salmon pizza with caviar, chicken pot pie and mini Kobe beef burgers. When you’re done, wash it all down with a carrot-orange gazpacho shot. Just make sure you make extra in case Best Supporting Actor nominee and noted vegan Jared Leto stops by. Check out the full list here.
Best Picture Cocktail Combos
Jessica Yadegaran at San Jose Mercury News has posted a list of cocktails to pair up with some of this year’s Best Picture nominees. The recipes, which come from various Bay Area bartenders, include cocktails for “Gravity,” “Wolf of Wall Street,” “American Hustle,” “Her” and others. We don’t want to spoil anything, but let’s just say if you try out all these suggestions, you won’t care if the Walt Disney propaganda film somehow emerges victorious -- even though it wasn’t nominated. Check out the full list here.
Oscars Popcorn Bars
The name kind of says it all. If you have youngsters in the house, mommy blogger Jennifer H., author of MyBoysandTheirToys.com, has just the thing for your G-rated Oscar bash: a full-fledged popcorn bar. And if that one doesn’t satisfy your salt fix, the blog Celebrations at Home has an even bigger popcorn bar -- so you can feel like you’re really at the movies.
DIY Oscar Party From Mr. Kate
Finally, for those of you who respond better to video stimulation, the lifestyle blogger Mr. Kate (not a mister) has posted a four-minute tutorial on creating the perfect DIY Oscar party. There is a lot of gold and a lot of glitter, which may not be everyone’s cup of Oscar tea, but with such concepts as no-cook finger foods and Red Carpet selfies, it’s hard to resist. Check out the full blog post here. Or watch the video below. It has 35,000 views and counting, so don’t be surprised if your neighbor comes up with some of the same ideas.
