  • Sony said earlier this year that "God of War: Ragnarok" is still scheduled to release this year
  • PlayStation might hold a State of Play in June
  • "God of War: Ragnarok" is set to launch on PlayStation 4 and PS5

A huge "God of War: Ragnarok" announcement could happen in the first week of June and if rumors are true, it would be at the PlayStation State of Play.

"God of War: Ragnarok" is one of the highly anticipated titles scheduled to launch sometime this year, but in the absence of new updates from game developers, many believe that the game's release would be delayed. However, there is a great possibility that Santa Monica Studios, the team working on the development of "GoW: Ragnarok," and Sony, would make a huge announcement about the game at the upcoming event to reduce anxiety among fans.

Venture Beat's Jeff Grubb, a video games journalist and industry insider, via GamesBeat Decide's YouTube channel, shared that he has heard about PlayStation hosting a State of Play in the first week of June. But the journalist said he could not confirm yet if this is a fact or just speculation from sources.

Xbox and Bethesda announced last week that "Redfall'' and "Starfield" will not release this year, which opens up a massive gap in the expected video games releases scheduled this year. The sci-fi space faring game "Starfield'' is anticipated to be the game of the holiday season and since it is delayed, nothing else is confirmed to release in that period.

Sony could use this as an opportunity to take advantage of this space for "God Of War: Ragnarok." Unfortunately, nothing about the game is confirmed yet, aside from PlayStation's vague announcement earlier this year that it is still scheduled for a 2022 release.

Several video game enthusiasts in the gaming forum ResetEra discussed the possibility of "God of War: Ragnarok" State of Play last month, with one user claiming that an unofficial source said the said event would take place on May 27.

However, another user claimed otherwise, saying the event is "Too soon last I checked." "God of War: Ragnarok" producer Cory Balrog said during the franchise's anniversary that the team will share something about the game as soon as it is ready but also teased "something cool is coming."

Looking at the way things are going, it will no longer be a surprise if the much-awaited series installment's release date would slip to 2023.

"God of War: Ragnarok" is currently in development at Santa Monica Studios and is slated to launch on PlayStation 4 and PS5.
