German carmaker BMW is expected to recall nearly 200,000 vehicles in China over defective airbags, the country’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) said Friday. This follows a November recall by the luxury automobile company in the U.S. over problems with its vehicles’ fuel pumps.

The latest recall affects 168,861 imported vehicles manufactured between December 2005 and December 2011, and 24,750 cars produced locally between July 2005 and December 2011, AQSIQ said, according to Agence France-Presse. Gas generators in the faulty airbags are at risk of breaking unexpectedly, forming debris that could possibly harm drivers.

BMW will replace the defective gas generators in the airbags for free, the agency added.

In October, BMW USA recalled some 154,000 vehicles over fuel pump problems. The smallest problem created by the issue could be fuel leakages, and the biggest risk would be crashes. Loose wiring in the cars was likely to melt a connector, triggering the leakage bringing the vehicles to a halt. This could have increased the risk of crashes. The recall affected 26 different BMW models.

In June, the German automaker recalled nearly 200,000 X3 and X4 crossover SUVs for problems with the child seat anchors. In February, about 840,000 vehicles were recalled due to implications from the massive Takata airbag recall.
