In the wake of the death of Bobbi Kristina Brown, many are still questioning the circumstances that led to her medically induced coma in January. Now, given that those events resulted in the death of the 22-year-old, police are ramping up their investigation.

As previously reported, police in Roswell, Georgia, announced in June that they were going to take a closer look at the events that led to Bobbi Kristina being found facedown and unresponsive in a bathtub by her boyfriend, Nick Gordon. Now, TMZ is reporting that the investigation has been upgraded to a homicide case, given that the victim has died. The outlet also reports that Gordon continues to be a person of interest, despite not having been charged with any crime.

While the police have not disclosed the nature of their investigation or what initially led them to decide to take a closer look at the case, a lawsuit filed on behalf of Bobbi Kristina by the Brown family's conservator, Bedelia Hargrove, may hold some clues.

According to Us Weekly, the suit claims Gordon was abusive, which might explain some marks found on Bobbi Kristina’s body Jan. 31. In addition, the suit alleges that Gordon manipulated facets of Bobbi Kristina's life, limiting her interaction with others, and allowed him access to her finances. Gordon reportedly withdrew $11,000 from her account soon after the daughter of the late Whitney Houston was hospitalized.

For now, Gordon is preparing to fight the lawsuit brought against him by the estate of Bobbi Kristina Brown, according to Entertainment Tonight. Whether he will face any criminal charges in connection with the case is not known.
