“Bones” shocked fans all over the world when the Fox series revealed who might be the serial killer known as The Puppeteer in the Season 11 finale. In the final moments of episode 22, Dr. Temperance Brennan was kidnapped by none other than her former assistant, Zack Addy. The last time we saw the brilliant assistant was when he was transferred to a psychiatric hospital for collaborating with cannibalistic serial killer Gormogon.

Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) had differencing opinions about the awkward squintern. While Booth saw Zack (Eric Millegan) as a bad guy who did something wrong, Brennan somehow understood his reasons for collaborating with a killer and didn’t think he was the villain everyone made him out to be. Will his return in the final season of “Bones” put a strain on the duo’s marriage? After all, the series does test their marriage often (for example, during Booth’s recurring gambling problem).

Fortunately, “Bones” showrunner, Johnathan Collier, told TVLine that while Zack’s return may put Booth and Brennan’s lives in jeopardy, it certainly won’t hamper their marriage. “The Zack [storyline] is certainly going to place them [Booth and Brennan] in jeopardy and certainly place them with different viewpoints,” he explained, “but is it going to challenge their marriage? I think their marriage is stronger than that.”

Season 12, which is also the final season of the crime series, will tie up several loose ends, including Booth’s spiritual debt. It is a debt of killing that he wanted to pay off.

The Season 11 finale also showed Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) getting some feelings in his legs. Hopefully, the “Bones” series finale will be a happy one.

“Bones” airs its final season, Season 12, in early 2017.
