In spite of many accusing Brian Laundrie's father of helping his son escape the police, the Florida resident was recently hugged by a stranger, who called the 23-year-old's death a "tragedy."

The incident comes days after the family learned about the death of Brian, who was the only one named as a person of interest in Gabby Petito's case.

Images from a video taken by a couple who tailed Brian's father Chris Laundrie to his home just to express their sadness over what they had gone through as a family was shared by The Sun US on Monday. The stranger reportedly told Chris they "could see from both sides" in the incident.

Just "wanted to say I'm sorry for your loss," the man told Chris, to which he replied saying "really?" The man and Chris reportedly exchanged words for several seconds as another person filmed the incident. Suddenly, Chris angrily pointed toward the camera and walked inside, the Sun US reported, sharing the video on their website.

Chris and Roberta Laundrie have been subject to a media frenzy after Petito was reported missing. Angry members of the public had been outside their North Port home after Petito's body was found near a Wyoming national park on Sept. 19. This further led to a massive manhunt for Brian as people believed he had answers to what might have happened to Petito.

However, after Brian's remains were found in the Carlton Reserve in Florida, many believe answers to what happened between the couple during their cross-country van trip are lost forever. A comparison of dental records confirmed Brian's identity, according to the FBI.

Despite an ongoing investigation, there hasn't been much update from the authorities into the deaths of Petito and Brian.

Meanwhile, there have been several conspiracy theories online, with many accusing Chris and Roberta of helping their son escape the police, even alleging they planted evidence at the scene where his body was found. However, none of these theories can be confirmed.

Recently, Petito’s family sat down for an interview with Dr. Oz where they opened up about the aftermath of their daughter’s death. Petito's mother, Nichole Schmidt, admitted she did not recognize any noticeable “red flags,” while their daughter was in a relationship with Brian.
