KEY POINTS

  • "Call of Duty 2022" is the sequel of the 2019 game "Modern Warfare"
  • The game is currently in development at Infinity Ward
  • "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" might be announced by the end of April

The official reveal of "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" is reportedly imminent after a still image from the game's first teaser trailer leaked online.

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" is one of the much-awaited games expected to launch sometime this year and while video game publisher Activision and game developer Infinity Ward have not yet said anything about the game aside from previously confirming that it is in development, some insiders in the community believe an official announcement is at hand.

Several fans noticed that the banner of the official Twitter handle of Infinity Ward has gone dark and some thought of increasing the brightness of the picture to see if they could figure something out of it. Interestingly, they were not mistaken as brightening the image revealed the fan-favorite iconic character Ghost, lurking in the dark and seemingly waiting for his next move.

Some fans believe it is Infinity Ward's creative way to build up anticipation in the days leading to the game's official reveal. While the community is still baffled on what the picture might mean, an industry insider who goes by the handle Ralph on Twitter claimed he has an idea about the still image.

According to them, the picture on Infinity Ward's Twitter banner is "actually from the reveal trailer" of "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2." The insider also pointed out that the still image is from the game's Raid mission, "involving Task Force 141."

If the insider's claim is true, it just means that the game developer has already given fans a sneak peek of what it is going to show very soon. Ralph is a reliable insider who previously said that something related to "Call of Duty" is happening at the end of April.

It was confirmed earlier this year that the latest "Call of Duty" series installment is in the works and it was described as "a sequel to MW 2019, and being designed with a new Warzone experience." It also features "a massive evolution of BR, with an all-new playspace and new sandbox mode and runs on a "new engine powering both the new game and Warzone."

Unfortunately, neither Activision nor Infinity Ward has said anything related to the game's official reveal.

In the absence of an official confirmation, fans should temper their expectations and take the latest leak and claim as highly speculative at this stage. "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" will likely launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC.
