Criminal Minds
Mr. Scratch (Bodhi Elfman) appears in “Criminal Minds” Season 12, episode 19. CBS

“Criminal Minds” is back with another interesting case for the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) to solve this week. Last week, the profilers on the CBS show flew to New York when a young girl disappeared. The team seemed to have a vampire on their hands – an unsub that drains three liters of blood from its victims.

Fortunately, the case wrapped up. Unfortunately, Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler), who is in prison for allegedly murdering a doctor in Mexico, isn’t doing so well. He accused former FBI Agent Calvin Shaw (Harold Perrineau) of actually running the prison and pulling the strings.

What will happen this week in “Criminal Minds”?

According to the synopsis on TVGuide, the BAU will be called to investigate after three victims are found tied to stakes in the Arizona desert. Joe Mantegna, who plays David Rossi, has directed this episode.

Although the synopsis gives little away, the promo of Season 12, episode 19 gives us more clues into what to expect. The video begins with newbie Stephen Walker (Damon Gupton) explaining that the three victims have been killed one by one over time. They weren’t killed together.

Then, Luke Alvez (Adam Rodriguez) demonstrates how each victim was killed in relation to the position of the sun at that time. In short, they were murdered at one o’clock, two o’clock, three o’clock and four o’clock. The unsub made a life-sized sundial. Yikes. In the words of Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness), “That’s a whackadoodle.”

However, “True North” won’t only have one unsub. The guest cast list clearly states that Bodhi Elfman reprises his role as the infamous serial killer Mr. Scratch/Peter Lewis in this episode. Given that “Criminal Minds” has only a few episodes left to wrap up its twelfth season, it makes sense for the mind-controlling and manipulative serial killer to rear his ugly head now.

“Criminal Minds” Season 12 airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EDT on CBS.
