J.J.’s life will be in danger on “Criminal Minds” Season 12, episode 2. Watch “Sick Day” on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 9 p.m. EDT on CBS. CBS

“Criminal Minds” Season 12 premiered an exciting episode 1 this week in which the notorious Mr. Scratch returned as the Crimson King. Although the serial killer escaped the clutches of the BAU (Behavioral Analysis Unit), the team finally replaced Derek Morgan with the leader of FBI’s Fugitive Task Force, Luke Alvez.

What will happen next week on the CBS series? Well, the focus will move from Thomas Gibson’s Hotch, who will appear in the last episode of “Criminal Minds,” to FBI Agent Jennifer Jareau/J.J. (A.J. Cook) when a case hits a little too close to home.

According to the synopsis (via SpoilerTV) of “Criminal Minds” Season 12, episode 2, J.J. will arrive home shaken after a rough case. She breaks down and tells her husband about the abduction of two children.

From the trailer, it certainly seems like J.J.’s life is in danger. She, Luke Alvez (Adam Rodriquez) and Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster) work together to catch a serial killer who loves to commit arson. However, things get worse when she walks towards the direction of a horrific scream and something explodes.

David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) informs the team that the unsub is perfecting his fantasy. When a serial killer uses fire, you know it’s going to be difficult for the BAU to nab him.

However, Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) provides some valuable insights to the case in “Criminal Minds” Season 12, episode 2. He says that the killer’s endgame is Los Angeles.

Neither the synopsis nor trailer of the upcoming episode of the crime series gives fans any idea of how Gibson’s Hotch will be written off from “Criminal Minds.” All we do know is that episode 2 onwards, Hotch will be assigned temporary duty elsewhere. Prentiss will become the team’s leader in his absence.
