“Ghost Busters” actor Dan Aykroyd mourned the death of ex-girlfriend Carrie Fisher Tuesday. The two were engaged in 1979 but split two years later.

Aykroyd, 64, took to Twitter to share his statement. “Our beautiful brilliant funny wise kind and generous Blues Sister -so ironic,” the actor wrote to his 233,000 followers. “Xmas was Carrie's favorite thing next to babies.” His tweet was liked more than 1,400 times within minutes.

Aykroyd and Fisher dated after they met on the set of “The Blues Brothers.” Co-star John Belushi set them up, CNN reported in 2011. His proposal wasn’t exactly romantic.

“I almost choked on some kind of vegetable that I shouldn't have been eating: Brussels sprouts!” Fisher explained, according to CNN. “So he had to give me the Heimlich maneuver. He saved my life, and then he asked me to marry him. And I thought...wow, what if that happens again? I should probably marry him.”

“When I was going to have the kissing scene with John, he went around the set singing ‘My Best Friend's Girl,’” she added with a laugh.

Fisher’s family spokesman, Simon Halls, released a statement behalf of Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd. “It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning,” the statement read to People Magazine. “She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”

Fisher, 60, had a heart attack on a plane from London to Los Angeles. She was rushed to UCLA Medical Center by the Los Angeles Fire Department. Her eyes were closed and she had an oxygen mask over her face. She never regained consciousness.

Fisher is survived by her daughter, her brother, Todd Fisher and sisters Tricia and Joely Fisher.
