A major shock rocked the “Dancing With the Stars” cast in Week 6. Maksim Chmerkovskiy returned to the show alongside partner Heather Morris only to be sent home after receiving a perfect score from the judges. Their elimination rocked the cast, reminding the remaining seven teams how important viewer votes are.

ET Online caught up with members of some of the other teams to find out how they were feeling are the unexpected elimination. Maks’ fiancee Peta Murgatroyd, currently competing alongside former “Bachelor” star Nick Viall, told the publication she was “so upset.” She was certain he and Heather would make it to the final round on this season of “DWTS.”

“I’m so upset for him. He was so excited,” she told ET. “He was just getting over his calf injury, and I mean, I swear they were gonna be in the finals. I mean, they’re incredible together. I just don’t understand it. But you know the show is based so heavily on fan votes, so I think that’s just it. They just lacked that I guess.”

Similarly, Val Chmerkovskiy and Normani Kordei said they were “disappointed.” Maks’ younger brother told ET Online his fellow “DWTS” pro worked hard to get back in the competition after injuring his calf and deserved to compete in the rest of Season 24. Val seemed less shocked than his co-stars, however, telling the publication that he often reminds Normani that this is a possibility.

“He worked really hard to come back and give Heather the rest of the season,” Val told ET Online. “Unfortunately, he didn’t get a chance to do that. But that’s why I tell [Normani] to enjoy every moment. It could be gone at any point.”

No one on the “DWTS” cast was more shocked by the elimination than Maks though. ET Online caught up with him after Week 6 came to a close, at which time he admitted he felt the elimination was “so wrong, in terms of [dancing talent].” Maks is no stranger to shocking happenings on “DWTS,” but being booted in Season 24 hit him where it hurt.

“Well, I mean We’ve had a few [surprising upsets] in 24 seasons of the show [but] I just never thought that one of my [partners] was going to be a part of that shock,” he said. “Brandy [NOrwood] and I didn’t make it to the final [in Season 11] when I thought she was one of he best dancers, but [that] wasn’t as shocking as this. This is crazy.”

Maks and Heather found themselves up for elimination in Week 6 after getting a perfect score of 40 out of 40 from the judges for their Rumba. They were joined by Team Golden Giggles (Sasha Farber and Simone Biles), Team Blades of Glory (Artem Chigvintsev and Nancy Kerrigan) and Team Valmani (Val and Normani). In the final moments of Season 24, Week 6 “DWTS” hosts Erin Andrews and Tom Bergeron made the mind boggling announcement.

Maks’ Week 6 dance was his first in several weeks. He was forced to take some time off from Season 24 of “DWTS” after injuring his calf preparing for Week 2. Maks underwent surgery and physical therapy to return to the show while Heather danced with “DWTS” troupe member Alan Bersten.

Tune in to “DWTS” Monday at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
