A “24” reunion is taking place on ABC this fall. “Designated Survivor,” which stars Kiefer Sutherland as a Secretary of Housing and Urban Development named Tom Kirkman, has tapped another “24” actor. Sutherland rose to fame with his role as Jack Bauer on the Fox action series.

Mykelti Williamson, who starred alongside Sutherland on “24” in Season 8, has been cast in “Designated Survivor,” Deadline reports. Williamson will play a character named Admiral Chernow, the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He soon becomes one of Kirkman’s trusted advisers when an attack on the Captiol forces him to become the President of the Unites States of America. It’s a good thing he has Chernow by his side.

Williamson’s character is an intelligent military man.

Sutherland and Williamson will be reunited a second time, having worked together in “Torch” after their stints in “24,” TVLine reports.

Williamson’s other TV credits, apart from the Fox show and “Torch,” include roles in WGN America’s “Underground,” FX’s “Justified,” ABC’s (now CMT’s) Nashville and NBC’s “Boomtown.”

“Designated Survivor” tells the story of Kirkman. He is a designated survivor -- a cabinet member who is placed in a secure location during a State of Union address. Should there be a devastating attack on all cabinet members, the designated survivor ensures that there is a cabinet member to take over the President’s role during a crisis.

Kirkman unexpectedly becomes the leader of the country after an explosion takes out all cabinet members. Sutherland’s character must take on the most difficult job in the United States. Worse still, the FBI is conducting investigations into who bombed the Capitol and they haven’t found the perpetrator yet.

The series also stars Natascha McElhone, Italia Ricci, Kal Penn and Maggie Q.

“Designated Survivor” premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 10 p.m. EDT on ABC.
