  • Twitter users have mixed reactions to Wade's gesture

Dwayne Wade clarified his now-deleted tweet supporting Nick Cannon.

Wade reacted to the reports that Cannon was fired following his anti-Semitic comments in his podcast. The former NBA player took to Twitter and wrote, “We are with you,” followed by a black first and the words “Keep Leading.” However, he deleted the tweet and posted another one to explain his move.

“I want to clarify my now deleted tweet. I was not supporting or condoning what Nick Cannon specifically said, but I had expressed my support of him owning the content and brand he helped create,” Wade wrote.

“I was too quick to respond without being fully informed about his hurtful anti-Semitic remarks. As you all know I have ZERO tolerance for any hate speech!” he added in another tweet.

Several people expressed their disappointment over Wade’s gesture online.

“Damn Dwyane... as someone who has been a fan since the age of 3, this one hurts. As someone who is Jewish what Nick, Desean, Stephen and other have said about the Jews in the past week has really hurt and for you to co-sign it in a way hurts even more,” @305sports_news commented.

“Dwayne, I love you so much. But as a Jew, his comments were in no way okay,” @Daniellelareina added.

“By saying ‘we are with you’ you’re directing supporting his comments. The anti-Semitic content he was spreading is exactly why he was fired and why supporting him is problematic. Education is the best form of support. #muchlove,” @BenjaminEshagh wrote.

Meanwhile, some encouraged Wade to not withdraw his support toward Cannon. For them, Cannon did not do anything wrong.

“Stick to your guns bruh. If you believe what @NickCannon said, go with it don’t back peddle. Especially if you support it,” @Godwillin opined.

“Honestly, you said nor did anything wrong. Please continue to support and uplift @NickCannon as the pioneer he is,” @therealest007 added.

ViacomCBS has fired Cannon following his anti-Semitic remarks. According to the mass media company, it was “deeply troubled” because Canon didn’t acknowledge or apologize for perpetuating anti-Semitism.
