Ed Sheeran does not appreciate people doubting the sincerity of his performances.

On Monday, the “Shape of You” singer took to Twitter to explain the real deal about his performance on the Pyramid stage at the Glastonbury Festival of Music and Performing Arts on Worthy Farm on June 25 after some attendees accused him of not playing live. “Never thought I’d have to explain it, but everything I do in my live show is live, it’s a loop station, not a backing track. Please google x,” Sheeran wrote.

The “Thinking Out Loud” singer makes heavy use of looping during his live sets. In this process, Sheeran, 26, records pieces of music and layer them over each other to create a full song all in real time. However, some fans misunderstood the process and took the technique as using pre-recorded instruments during the show, Entertainment Tonight reported.

The issue started when some fans mocked Sheeran for using a backing track on Twitter. “Pretty lame Ed Sheeran playing with a backing track rather than a live band,” one person wrote.

However, Sheeran’s real fans are on the singer’s side and took to the social media site to defend him against his bashers. “These are obvs people that have never seen Ed live before, he doesn’t need a band he does it all himself and sings LIVE, not many can do it!” one wrote, as quoted by The Sun. “How do people not know this you’ve been doing it since the start of your career,” another one commented.

Others were impressed with Sheeran’s skills in using the loop station, pointing our that it takes a lot of effort, skill and experience, but the “Perfect” singer made the process look simple and effortless. “Idiots complaining about Ed Sheeran using backing track. uh no. He created his back track live in front of u. #footpedal #saveitforbritney,” user Stephen Buller wrote.

The “Photograph” singer seemed unfazed by the issue for the most part. In another tweet, he wrote, “Anyway, great night, great atmosphere, family, friends, fun. Love you all x.”

Sheeran was later spotted seemingly in great spirits with his girlfriend, Cherry Seaborn. The couple was seen holding hands as they headed to a helicopter.

Sheeran’s performance at the Pyramid stage followed sets by the Foo Fighters on Saturday and alternative heavyweights Radiohead on Friday. It was his fourth appearance at the festival, but he admitted that he was still nervous despite having headlined Wembley Stadium.
