Tuesdays are all about the drama. Tonight’s fall TV premieres include procedurals, tearjerkers, superhero stories and medical dramas.

Those who love stories about government agents are in luck. “NCIS” Season 16 kicks off one month after Director Vance (Rocky Carroll) was kidnapped, and he is still missing. Gibbs (Mark Harmon) steps in as acting director while the team desperately searches. Following the veteran drama is the brand-new series “FBI,” about the agency’s largest field office.

For something a little more emotional, NBC has “This Is Us” Season 3. The premiere will follow the Big Three on their 38th birthday while flashbacks show Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca’s (Mandy Moore) first date. Plus, it’s set to feature a big twist.

While you’re recovering from the tearjerker, “New Amsterdam” will kick off. The new medical drama, inspired by a true story, follows a new medical director at the country’s oldest public hospital. He wants to cut out all the bureaucracy and focus on getting help for patients, but that will not be easy.

Meanwhile, Marvel fans will be happy to see some of their favorite mutants return. “The Gifted” Season 2 premieres on Fox, and it’ll have some big changes. After Reeva (Grace Byers) becomes leader of the Inner Circle, the show will fast forward six months. Eclipse (Sean Teale) and Caitlin (Amy Acker) go to criminal hacker Wire (Brad Carter) to get info on Reeva’s group. Meanwhile, the Mutant Underground relocates to Washington, D.C.. However, the mutant tracking is even more intense now, and Polaris (Emma Dumont) will become worried as she gets closer to giving birth.

For something a little shorter that’s still action-packed, FX will have the series premiere of “Mr. Inbetween.” The season will only have six half-hour episodes that follow Ray (Scott Ryan), a man trying to balance work and family. He’s not exactly a regular Joe, though. He’s a hit man.
