'Game Of Thrones' Season 5 Spoilers: Differences Between Book And Show Keep Fans, Readers On Same Page
We always knew "Game of Thrones" Season 5 was going to be interesting -- interesting to see how creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss would adapt the final published "A Song of Ice and Fire" novels, "A Feast for Crows" and "A Dance With Dragons." Based on set photos, fans of the hit HBO series now have some idea what to expect from the new season and it looks like "ASOIAF" readers and "GoT" viewers are in for plenty of surprises.
Warning: Full "Game of Thrones" Season 5 spoilers ahead.
Based on the San Diego Comic-Con announcement, casting news and production reports, there are plenty of details on what will happen in "Game of Thrones" Season 5. Dorne and the Martells will feature prominently, with some changes to their storylines, such as the consolidation of Sand Snakes, but there's no word yet about Arianne Martell, the eldest of the Martell children and heir to Prince Doran's throne. Cersei also looks to be a major player in the new season, including her "Walk of Shame" and the show's first flashback, most likely the prophecy from Cersei's childhood involving the fortune teller known as Maggy the Frog.
With production fully underway for "Game of Thrones" Season 5, we're starting to hear about what's being adapted from the book. Entertainment Weekly notes the Iron Isles will not be featured in the new season and the series is also making some very interesting changes with the storylines for Jaime, Daenerys and Tyrion.
Watchers on the Wall, which has been covering cast and production news, has photos from Daznak's Pit, the fighting pit that was reopened as part of Dany's wedding ceremony. The scenes are likely from the "Game of Thrones" Season 5 finale but feature story elements that go beyond the published novels. In the set photos, Tyrion is seen next to Dany while Jorah is seen fighting inside the pit.
In the novels, Jorah and Tyrion have traveled extensively but have yet to be reunited with Dany in Meereen. Jorah meets up with Tyrion and the two escape captivity and eventually join the Second Sons but are only beginning their journey back to Meereen.
On the other side of the Narrow Sea, Jaime has been spotted in Dorne. In the novels, Jaime is currently trekking around the Riverlands, lifting sieges and restoring order in the few strongholds that have held out against Lannister rule. In "A Dance With Dragons," Brienne visits Jaime and says she has found Sansa and the two head off to find the Stark daughter, but it appears to be a trap after the Maid of Tarth is freed by Lady Stoneheart.
Myrcella, Jaime's daughter, is in Dorne, and based on previous reports it looks like Jaime will be making his presence known with the Martells. In the north, Winterfell will make an appearance, as will Jon Snow. The Wall storyline will look to pick up right after Stannis' arrival.
No word yet on the "Game of Thrones" Season 5 start date, but it should be around the beginning of April based on past premiere dates.
