  • The couple reportedly wanted to wait until it was safe for all their family and friends to attend the ceremony
  • Stefani "really wanted a summer wedding" and began planning the event this spring, according to the report

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton's wedding day has not yet arrived despite recent speculation that they may have already tied the knot.

The couple, who announced their engagement last year after five years together, are excited about getting married this summer, People reported, citing an unnamed source. Shelton and Stefani reportedly waited until it was safe for their loved ones to attend their nuptials before setting a date.

"Ever since they got engaged, they have both been adamant that no wedding will happen until it's safe for family and friends to attend. Gwen expressed early on that she really wanted a summer wedding," the insider told the outlet. "She was upset earlier this year when it seemed to be no end in sight for the pandemic. She slowly started planning the wedding this spring though."

But with pandemic restrictions easing across the country, Stefani and Shelton "are both ecstatic that it can finally happen. They are getting married this summer," the source added.

Stefani's three sons, whom she shares with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale, will be involved in the preparations and ceremony, according to the source.

"Gwen's boys will be very involved," the insider added. "Blake is a great extra dad and very close with the boys."

Another insider close to the couple previously told People in December 2020 that Stefani's children, Kingston, 15, Zuma, 12, and Apollo, 7, will be a "large part" of her wedding to Shelton.

"Gwen's sons are just really solid, sweet kids, and they're so excited for Blake and Gwen to get married," the friend said at the time. "They can't wait to stand by their sides."

Meanwhile, rumors that they may have had a secret wedding surfaced after a recent outing of Shelton and Stefani with her son Apollo over the weekend in California. In photos published by Page Six, the No Doubt vocalist was seen Saturday wearing what appeared to be a wedding ring next to her massive engagement sparkler.

Shelton gave Stefani a massive, 6- to 9-carat, round solitaire diamond set on what appeared to be a platinum band when he proposed in October 2020.

Last week, Stefani was surprised with an intimate bridal shower by her family. "I got kidnapped by my family to celebrate that I’m getting married!" she said in a video.
